Volkswagen Golf Mk7 Service & Repair Manual: Removing air conditioner compressor from and installing to bracket, Golf and Golf Estate

Using torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-, this page covers removing the Golf/Estate AC compressor from its bracket — noting the Start/Stop abort conditions relevant to this repair.

Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331- (5…50 Nm) Notes on repairs to vehicles with air conditioning and on handling refrigerant can be found in ELSA under → Air conditioning system with refrigerant R134a; Rep. gr.00. Notes on testers and tools for repairs to vehicles with air conditioning can be found in ELSA under → Air conditioning system with refrigerant R134a; Rep. gr.00. Removing –  Observe safety precautions → Chapter „Safety instructions“. –  Comply with notes → Chapter „Working on refrigerant circuit“. –  Remove noise insulation under engine → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.66. Depending on engine, remove front right wheel housing liner → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.66. –  Remove poly V-belt → Rep. gr.13.

–  Disconnect connector -6- on air conditioner compressor -1-. –  Unscrew hexagon bolts -5- and remove air conditioner compressor -1-.   Note If only ancillary bracket is to be removed, refrigerant lines on AC compressor must not be released.

–  Secure air conditioner compressor to body with suitable material (e.g. welding wire). Fitting Installation is carried out in the reverse order. When installing, note the following: –  Thoroughly clean the contact surfaces at the air conditioner compressor and holder.

–  Insert dowel sleeves -arrows- into air conditioner compressor.   Note Ensure that dowel sleeves are properly seated and that contact surfaces are clean. Improperly fitted dowel sleeves or dirty or damaged contact surfaces can cause deviations in alignment of air conditioner compressor and engine. In the course of operation, misalignment will result in damage to the air conditioner compressor. Risk of damage to the air conditioner compressor. Refrigerant oil may accumulate in the compression chamber of a removed air conditioner compressor.After installing a new air conditioner compressor or adding new refrigeration oil, give the air conditioner compressor 10 turns by hand before the poly V-belt is fitted. Specified torque → Chapter „Assembly overview - drive unit of air conditioner compressor“ Note the following when starting engine for first time after filling refrigerant circuit: –  Refer to notes on commissioning of air conditioning system after installation of air conditioner compressor → Air conditioning system - with refrigerant R134a.
