Volkswagen Golf Mk7 Service & Repair Manual: Removing and installing cover cap, without lock cylinder

Using assembly tool -T10389-, this page covers removing the Volkswagen Golf Mk7 blank door handle cover cap — fitted when no lock cylinder is present — by inserting the tool approximately 44 mm into the door behind the handle bracket's locking hook.

  Note
The cover cap is installed when no lock cylinder is fitted.

Removing and installing cover cap, without lock cylinder

–  Remove plugs -3-.
–  Insert assembly tool -T10389- approx. 44 mm into the door behind locking hook -2- of the door handle bracket.
–  Pull assembly tool -T10389- approx. 5 mm backwards -arrow- until hook is detached.

–  Pull door handle -1- off door -arrow a-.
–  Pull cover cap -1- out of mounting bracket -arrow b-.

 
Installing

–  Pull door handle -2- off door in direction of -arrow a-.
–  Push cover cap -1- into mounting bracket -arrow b-.

–  Slightly press cover cap -1- onto door.
–  Insert flat-bladed screwdriver -4- approx. 40 mm into door handle bracket until locking hook -3- is reached.
–  Press cap -1- onto door.
–  Push screwdriver approx. 5 mm into hole -arrow- until hook locks in place -3-.
–  Insert plug -5-.
