otherwise be damaged. Gas strut will spring out of mounting,
causing damage or injury to operator. |

Position a small screwdriver -3-
beneath spring clip -4-. |

Raise spring clip -4- such that it can
be moved over ball socket -arrow a-. |

Pull gas strut -1- off ball-head pins

| After removing gas strut -1-, slide
spring clip -4- back immediately. |

strut

How do I remove the Golf Mk7 bonnet gas strut?
Open and support the bonnet, carefully release the spring clips from the ball sockets at each end, and remove the strut. WARNING: the strut is under pressure — it can spring away.
Can I reuse a Golf Mk7 bonnet gas strut?
Yes, if it still holds the bonnet open. The spring clip must not be fully levered off the ball socket or it will be damaged. Handle with care.
What happens if the Golf Mk7 gas strut fails?
The bonnet will not stay open on its own and could fall on you. Replace weakened struts promptly.
