Volkswagen Golf Mk7 Service & Repair Manual: Removing and installing sun visor

Using release pliers -VAS 6427-, this page covers removing the Volkswagen Golf Mk7 driver-side sun visor — swing the visor toward the front to access the mounting before releasing it.

  Note
Removal and installation is described for the sun visor on driver side. Follow same instructions for the front passenger side as appropriate.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
Removing
–  Swing sun visor towards front.
 

Release pliers -VAS 6427-
Release pliers -VAS 6427-
–  Fit a flat-bladed screwdriver on recess -arrow- and carefully lever out light -1- for vanity mirror.
–  Disconnect electrical connector.
 

Removing and installing sun visor

–  Detach sun visor -2- from centre mount -1-.
–  Open caps -3- on sun visor mount.
  Note
When carrying out the steps below, ensure that release pliers -VAS 6427- are positioned centrally in retaining clips.

–  Release front retaining clip -3- in sun visor mount -1- from body mounting using release pliers -VAS 6427-.
–  Hold sun visor in such a way that the retaining clip does not engage again.
–  Release rear retaining clip -3- in sun visor mount -1- from body mounting using release pliers -VAS 6427-.
–  Carefully remove sun visor -2- with sun visor mount -3- downwards from body mounting and remove transport lock.
–  Pull wiring harness which is bonded to moulded headliner towards front. Disconnect connector and remove sun visor.
  Note
Lower moulded headliner if the wiring harness is torn off while »pulling it towards front«. Use the wiring harness repair set -VAS 1978 B- to repair the electrical wiring harness.
Installing
  Note
Before installing, check all fasteners for damage and renew if necessary.
–  Wrap connector with one layer of foam tape.
–  Grasp with one finger through hole of light for vanity mirror and slightly pull down moulded headliner.
–  Push connector between moulded headliner and roof cross member towards rear by approx. 6 cm.
–  Engage front retaining clip for sun visor mount in body mounting.
–  Engage rear retaining clip for sun visor mount in body mounting.
–  Ensure that both retaining clips are properly engaged in body.
Further installation is performed in reverse order of removal
